Children Ministry

Meets Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at 2111 East state Street (3 to 11 years old).

A few weeks ago, during our Wednesday night Calvary Kids Club, I was helping the kids make Valentines with scripture verses inside. They were eagerly working away, when one young man said, "I want to give a Valentine to my Aunt who is so sad. She has cancer; she cries every day and just won't eat. I know she is not a Christian and I don't know if she will even like my Valentine with scripture in it".

I told the boy that I could not imagine an adult who wouldn't melt at a thoughtful card from a young relative like himself. He wrote inside "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). The boy wrote "God loves you and so do I". Then he signed it.

The next week, I asked him what his Aunt thought of the card. "Oh", he said "She not only read it, and loved it but she had a little soup to eat, her first meal in days. The next day, she had a grilled cheese and more soup". The whole class was in awe of the power of God's Word in the hands of a willing child.

I would like to encourage you all as parents to receive God's Word and let it work its way out into your world as this young man has done.

Let me leave you with the theme verse of our women's retreat this year, Colossians 3:16: "Let the Word of God dwell in you richly with all wisdom; admonishing one another with songs, hymns and spiritual songs making melody with grace in your hearts to the Lord".
