What We Believe
Calvary Chapel Lafayette is a body of believers gathering together under
the Lordship of Jesus Christ to worship Him, be taught by His Word,
and grow in our love for one another.
We understand that God's supreme desire is that we experience
His love and extend His love to others.
We Experience His Love...
- By the Living Word - Through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus (John 3:16)
- By the Written Word - Through the study and application of the Bible (II Timothy 3:16,17)
We Extend His Love...
- By our Worship (Acts 16:25)
- By our Walk (Colossians 4:5)
- By our Witness (Acts 1:8)
Calvary Chapel Distinctives
- The priority of the Word. We teach the Word of God is such a way that it can be applied to life as beneficial towards a growing maturity.
- The centrality of Jesus Christ.
- A dependence upon the Holy Spirit to lead rather than fleshly promotion.
- The supremacy of love and grace.
- The continuance today of the diversities and supernatural aspect of spiritual gifts as found in I Cor. 12:4-11.
- Simplicity in church government, rather than a complex bureaucracy.
- The pre-millennial, pre-tribulation return of Christ for His waiting church.
Our Essential Beliefs:
- We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings. (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20,21; 2 Tim. 1:13; Ps 119:105,160; Prov. 30:5)
- We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. (Gen. 1:1,26,27; 3:22, Deut. 6:4; Isa. 48:6; Lk. 1:35, 3:21,22; John 14:16,17; Matt 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; Jude 20,21)
- We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His personal return in power and glory. (Matt. 1:22,23; Is. 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Heb. 4:14,15; I Cor. 15:3,4; Rom. 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; I Tim. 5:14,15; Titus 2:13)
- We believe though created in God's image, mankind is lost and sinful and must be saved. Man.s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (Gen. 1:27; Is. 53:6a, 59:1,2; Romans 3:23, 6:23)
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are unsaved unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28,29)
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (John 14:16; Romans 8:9; Eph. 1:13, 4:30; Gal 5:25; Eph. 5:18)
- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (John 13:34,35; Eph. 4:1-3, 5:1,2; I Cor. 12:13; John 17:21)
We affirm the simple historical christian belief:
In essential beliefs - we have Unity (Eph. 4:4-6)
In non-essential beliefs - we have Liberty (Romans 14:1,4,12,22)
In all our beliefs - we show charity (I Cor. 13:2)
